Once upon a Pandemic…
Gorgeous with curly locks and a smile to die for, Movena, a spunky Tamil-Punjabi kudi from Malaysia married Vinay, a handsome Malayalee on a cloudless March morning in the groom’s hometown, Bengaluru. This was right about the same time the Corona virus situation started to get serious.
The instant rapport that we as planners felt with the couple added to the fun atmosphere that permeated our interactions, even though the pandemic tried hard to play villain. With the situation getting serious, two-thirds of the guests had to cancel. However, Movena’s positive attitude kept everyone’s spirits up. As she said “We had always wanted an intimate wedding”.
For the mehendi celebrations, the bridal seat had an oval frame studded with double-coloured carnations which gave the illusion of a glow around Movena. We also had pots with yellow marigold overflowing and colourful yet soft dream-catchers handmade by our team as the ambience decor.
The wedding was to be held at The Lalit Ashok main lawns, however the decrease in the number of guests required a last minute venue change to the smaller lawns at the same hotel. There was a silver lining to this…the smaller lawn was far more beautiful and nature in all her lush green abundance enveloped around…the perfect backdrop for our decor. A contemporary take on the traditional south Indian theme, the decor was coloured with marigolds, jasmine and roses.
Movena’s love of animals was expressed by parrots handmade with mango leaves adorning the mantap – we wonder if this love is why Bernie, the hotel doggy decided to make a guest appearance.
The photo-booth was a flamboyant burst of colours with a bright yellow cycle-rickshaw to set them on the path of their dreams.
The highlight of the reception at the Taj Westend was the extravagant lavender centrepieces along with the singers who recreated the magic of old Hindi film songs. The LED backdrop with a border of lush flowers was used to display a beautiful candid video of the wedding. The melodies along with the groom’s heartfelt speech made the evening a riot of emotions.
