Planning a Event Planner’s Wedding

Planning an event planner’s wedding is a challenge in itself. So when Nandita chose us to plan her wedding, our enthusiastic team took it as an opportunity to learn and in the process create a memorable experience.

Nandita is a meticulous planner herself and we knew the key to getting it right would be attention to detail. We also wanted to ensure that Daniel the groom and his family who were from America experienced an Indian wedding which had restraint and elegance as its hallmark. The couple, innately spiritual, were determined to strike the right balance between tradition and modern elegance.

The Raintree at Taj Westend, with its huge eponymous raintree that magically filtered the sunlight onto the lawns, couldn’t be a more idyllic setting for an intimate wedding on a semi-cloudy morning in December. The mantap draped in gold tissue, speckled with hydrangeas, orchids, lilies and roses in hues of peach, lavender and white was linked to its natural surroundings by intertwining tree-twigs with the flowers. Ivory fabric and flower garlands suspended from the ancient rain-tree’s branches and the floral strings entwining its trunk gave the garden a heavenly ambience. The central aisle covered in shades of rose petals and framed with floral vases made for a perfect entrance for the bride. Adorned in theme specific pastel finery, the couple looked graceful.

Lunch was served at the Blue Ginger Lawns where traditional flowers like marigold, tuberose and lotus lent the place an ethnic feel. Accompanied by the sitar, tabla and santoor the instrumentalists celebrated the love in the air with their composition.

The reception was held later that evening in the Regency hall at the Windsor Manor where the theme revolved around romance and royalty. The hall already ornate and royal meant we kept the couple’s backdrop simple and elegant. The grand centrepieces in shades of Marsala and red roses completed the regal look.

As if they had just walked out of a Bond movie, Daniel in his white suit and Nandita in a luxurious deep red velvet gown looked resplendent. Toasts were made by friends and family and a delicious cake with ivory fondant and gold detailing was cut. A solo guitarist performed some of the greatest love songs ever, to set the dance floor aflame.

Planning this wedding was a memory to treasure because of the two lovely protagonists and their dream wedding.

Lawn Wedding at Lalit Ashok Bangalore

Once upon a Pandemic…

Gorgeous with curly locks and a smile to die for, Movena, a spunky Tamil-Punjabi kudi from Malaysia married Vinay, a handsome Malayalee on a cloudless March morning in the groom’s hometown, Bengaluru. This was right about the same time the Corona virus situation started to get serious.

The instant rapport that we as planners felt with the couple added to the fun atmosphere that permeated our interactions, even though the pandemic tried hard to play villain. With the situation getting serious, two-thirds of the guests had to cancel. However, Movena’s positive attitude kept everyone’s spirits up. As she said “We had always wanted an intimate wedding”.

For the mehendi celebrations, the bridal seat had an oval frame studded with double-coloured carnations which gave the illusion of a glow around Movena. We also had pots with yellow marigold overflowing and colourful yet soft dream-catchers handmade by our team as the ambience decor.

The wedding was to be held at The Lalit Ashok main lawns, however the decrease in the number of guests required a last minute venue change to the smaller lawns at the same hotel. There was a silver lining to this…the smaller lawn was far more beautiful and nature in all her lush green abundance enveloped around…the perfect backdrop for our decor. A contemporary take on the traditional south Indian theme, the decor was coloured with marigolds, jasmine and roses.

Movena’s love of animals was expressed by parrots handmade with mango leaves adorning the mantap – we wonder if this love is why Bernie, the hotel doggy decided to make a guest appearance.

The photo-booth was a flamboyant burst of colours with a bright yellow cycle-rickshaw to set them on the path of their dreams.

The highlight of the reception at the Taj Westend was the extravagant lavender centrepieces along with the singers who recreated the magic of old Hindi film songs. The LED backdrop with a border of lush flowers was used to display a beautiful candid video of the wedding. The melodies along with the groom’s heartfelt speech made the evening a riot of emotions.

We are sure every guest will treasure the thoughtfully wrapped wedding give-aways as a memory of a wonderful experience that not even a pandemic could disrupt.

Beachside Wedding – A perfect get-away for a beautiful couple

A destination wedding can be as cool and casual as you like. Want to wear flip-flops or barefoot and dig your toes into the sand at a beach wedding? You got it! No heavy brocade wedding gowns or stultifying tuxedoes required, either. Make the ceremony as short as you like, then strip down to your bathing suits and swim away. Or head to a patio, start the music and champagne toasts for a party that can last until the star comes out.

One such was the wedding of Eshaw and Sai, a wedding which we truly enjoyed being a part of right from the time I had a conversation with this beautiful couple.

The moment I spoke to Eshaw and Sai, we connected in lines of what exactly they wanted and from there on everything fell in place. Both Eshaw and Sai reached out to us about six months before their D-day and we started at once on collating it all together, starting from the overall planning phase with schedules and timelines along with some intrinsic checklists.

The couple finally narrowed down to going ahead with Radisson Blu in Mahabalipuram considering the planning and commute to this place from the different parts of the state. Both Eshaw and Sai where themselves in two different countries and so it was not always easy to connect with three different timelines but since we put all things together right from the start it seemed like a piece of cake and indeed made the experience a memorable one for the couple.

The wedding events were panned across two days, with day one being the one where the entire guest checked-in to the hotel and without further a due kick-started it off with a small Mehendi ceremony at a location overseeing the beach with perfect background music to go along with for that particular event.

This then followed into an evening of fun and dancing with the decor leaning towards a rustic theme and a DJ to ensure that everyone came off their heels and let loose.

The next day, started early with the wedding ritual having a mix of both the Tamil and Telegu community rituals, what I would say is a perfect blend of the two South Indian communities followed into a sumptuous meal. This was indeed the most-awaited day and it all perfectly came together with a perfect theme and what the couple wanted – A wedding overlooking the beach which served as a natural ambience any couple would dream of.

It was indeed another beautiful wedding that ended on a fruitful note and we would like to thank Eshaw and Sai and both their beautiful families for having allowed us to be a part of the big day.

Haldi Ceremony in Indian Weddings – Tradition With A Twist

#AHaldiCeremonyToRemember

What is the first thing that pops in your head when you hear the word “Haldi Ceremony?” Is it the yellow paste, the beautiful bride painted in haldi, people playing around and rubbing haldi on each other and having fun, fragrance of the bright yellow and orange marigolds, the joyous ethnic music or maybe it’s all of them together.

Haldi is an intimate ceremony attended by close family and friends. The challenging part that most often remains is how to balance out the tradition with the fun.

Fear not, because here we provide a solution for your family and friends to make your haldi more fun traditionally!

  1. Okhali/Rokali – Back in old days mashing haldi in Rokali/Okhali by ladies was considered as the start of the ceremony. Bring in your friends and cousins to do this ritual and give them a taste of an old tradition. Rokali/rolu (as called in south India) not only adds fun to the haldi experience but also acts as a décor element in the overall setup by tying marigold flowers around it.

  1. Drum Sieve – This is one of the popular traditions in Telegu weddings where bride & Groom get bathed in water pouring from a drum sieve. The fun of seeing friends waiting for their turns to splash water (sometimes ice cold) over the bride/groom so that they will not miss out on this onetime opportunity is incomparable. The drum sieve can be turned into a beautiful chandelier by adding a few marigold and roses and hung to approachable height above the bride/groom. This sieve-turned-chandelier will add a wow effect to your bride/groom’s throne.

Haldi : Rashna & Nikhil

  1. Pichkoos“Balam pichkari jo tune mjhe maari” this reminds us of Deepika Padukone splashing water from pichkari towards Ranbir Kapoor as he gets down from the bus and rest is history. These pichkoos will give you such cherishable memories if added to your haldi ceremony list. Pichkoos are available in most shops around the year, all you need is haldi water to be kept ready in designed pots and don’t forget to add some flower petals to it. Do consult with your wedding planner to add this to your fun element for haldi ceremony.

  1. Colour bombs – The most trending wedding photos are the ones in which couples emerge from colorful smoke or kissing under the smoke cloud. These colour bombs will give you a Holi vibe without actually covering you under colour. All you need are your cousins, friends and ample number of these colour bombs to give you some unforgettable pictures. Be ready to get flooded with likes 😉

  1. Floral jewelry – Floral jewelry is the most trending jewelry worn by brides during their haldi. While a complete set of floral jewelry helps the bride stand out amongst the crowd, why not give away a piece of floral ornament to your attendees to make them feel a special. It can just be maang tika, a bracelet or a floral ring or just a round of jasmine mala around the wrist which can be worn by both males and females’ attendees. A small addition of the element can change the entire experience of your guests.

We hope this small addition of above elements to your haldi ceremony will make it an event to remember. And don’t forget to share pictures of you and your squad with colourful photo bombs or you getting splashed with water! #ahaldiceremonytoremember

Eat, Drink and Be Married Away!

A destination wedding has its uniqueness and charm to it and as long as your choices match your theme and the time of year, you’ll pick the right decorations to make your wedding beautiful. Such was the one between Hasa & Chaitanya, the couple who chose the Scotland of India (Coorg) to be their wedding destination since they wanted something very intimate and amidst nature. There is always an ad-on factor when it comes to a hill station wedding and that yes, is the perfect natural backdrop to all your photographs.

Hasa, the bride got in touch with us about two months before her wedding and we just kicked off from there. We put together an extremely detailed plan to finalize every aspect of the wedding since the couple had guests coming from all over the globe. Hasa always wanted her wedding to be unique and simple. It was a wedding that was planned around for three days.
To give the reader an insight into the three days of wedding fiesta, the first day was the poolside Mehendi event followed into the Sangeet evening which had a list of wonderful performances by the family.

The second day started with a Haldi event in which the backdrop of it naturally was a hill with a theme of the decor being yellow and whites amidst the lush greenery. The day ended with a reception dinner with a theme of pastels and warm yellow lights.

Finally, the D-day started early morning with an added ambience of the morning mist and dew, while Hasa walked through the aisle of decor which was predominantly red, orange and whites. The wedding was followed by the traditional plantain leaf meal and some wonderful family photographs in the end.

Our team together took care of the overall planning, decor & design, guest hospitality and logistics, conceptualisation, and all other aspects of the wedding to make it hassle-free and memorable for the lovely couple and for the entire team.
Thank you, Hasa and Chaitanya for entrusting in us and giving us the opportunity to be a part of your big day.

Etched memories

Article by Ann Rose George Tharakan

Every couple is unique in their own way and working with each of them closely leads to an etched memory which we love to cherish.

274A0647
Vidya and LP was one such couple who were so passionate about every detail, and that gave me, even more, a reason to get to know them and build a wonderful relationship.
A person’s senses are so intertwined with an experience and when we come across couples who are so zealous, we love to make it the most valuable moment which creates the nostalgia and the memories later on. It’s a blessing that we have always got lovely couples to work with and it always keeps us going.

Green Wedding? Yes, definitely for an Eco-friendly environment

Article by Ann Rose George Tharakan

Think having a “Green Wedding” is not possible in any way? Think again.
Recycle your world

We often conclude saying having a green wedding or an eco-friendly wedding means cutting cost and getting something cheap, which is just wrong, I would rather say it’s an effort made by each couple to decrease the impact of their event on the planet. It’s not often that you will come across a couple who actually make a conscious effort to look into the consumption of resources during their Big day.

When we actually research deep into this there are so many ways one can contribute to helping our environment and all of which you can do without sacrificing your budget, vision or sanity. All you need to do is put a little extra thought into this and you will find your answers in the smallest ways possible that you never imagined.

By taking a look at the bigger picture, one can move beyond the usual decadence and consumption to create a truly personal, moving, and sustainable celebration that people will remember for years. You may even open a few eyes in the process…

Firstly, let’s look at it what actually is possible in a practical way.

Venue for a start: The first big ticket when we get into the entire planning aspect. Choose a venue that has some points standing out supporting eco-friendly approach. Say solar power, outdoor venues that need no electricity for a morning wedding, venue that has a waste management plant. Trying to refrain to one venue for all your wedding events instead of keeping them in multiple locations where you also need to consider that the guest needs to travel all the way. So think wisely and execute it in a smart way.

14224703_1781784032039932_4207127616096556431_nPhoto credit: PixelStory.in

Well, you need to invite your family and friends: Invitations a big mass of wastage, don’t you think. Imagine the amount of trees being cut down for this. So, going green means definitely trying not to go the traditional way of accumulating paper invites.

  • Solution for a scenario like this is to try and look at recycled paper for those who can’t avoid it for 20 reasons.
  • Well technology as evolved so why not make it all digital and paperless. There are so many Wedding apps like WedCraze, PugMe, etc… Which can be used that will not only help in sending out invites but also keeping a tab on the RSVP’s, the various activities planned across the wedding days and the details on the events and location for the same.
  • Wood carved invitations which will give you the rustic and earthy look it needs. It can be made in such a way as into a shape of a photo frame that the person can use it later.laser-cut-engraved-Wedding-Invitation-by-Chase-Kettl-34575-560x373Photo taken from WedMeGood
  • Save the date and invites can also be sent out in the form of Whatsapp invites and using various social media sites like facebook, wedding website made specific for a couple, video invite, etc…
  • Technology has improved to an extent where couples who can’t avoid physical invites can try to source plantable invites, these invites which are embedded with some native flower seeds so that your invite grows into a plant in their backyard or garden.elephant_gray_paper-700x525Photo taken from WedMeGood
  • Vegetable based ink and soy ink may take longer to dry, it’s worth the wait – they only release around 2-4% of volatile organic compounds into our atmosphere. Hence contributing to an eco-friendly wedding.handmadepaperPhoto taken from WedMeGood

So go ahead and try something different and make your wedding stand out.

Next big wastage that we need to consider is the amount of food: Well, it is always best to keep a minimum number of your guest list. Just because you have an acquaintance with someone you need not invite their entire family, even so you invite make sure they eat to full and leave.

  • The minimal guest-list you have the minimum wastage it creates. In a way in a country like India where family and friend circles are wide and close knitted it natural you can’t avoid the number of guest-list. But one can definitely plan ahead on how to curb wastage during your wedding.
  • Some tips that can be thought of are using Banana leaf for all the meals works well for a South Indian Wedding, which can be later fed to the cows.00c9c8227b052b856d9a0f9a1e1ca901
  • Refrain use of plastics and polystyrene instead using degradable materials like recycled paper bags, edible cutlery which is now available in the market or the ones you can re-use like glasses, stainless steel and porcelain plates hence contributing to a thoughtful waste segregation process and not just dumping everything into a pile. Finally make good organic compost out of the waste.conceptPhoto taken from online source
  • One can also call in an organisation that can feed the hungry with the leftover food.

Finally the main wastage that you need to consider when you think of a green wedding Oh! Yeah. Couples who love flowers: Well, we agree it makes everything beautiful. But putting a little thought into this can avoid a major chunk of wastage.

  • Choose elements that can be re-used like fabric and lights without compromising on the look of your dream day wedding.1Y3A7171Photo credit: wfa wedding photography10403755_822486704457563_1748248341580895176_o
  • Use flowers: there are so many varieties of artificial flowers which is an option. For the ones who really want flowers try and choose flora that is cultivated without any chemical treatment which can be further made into vermi-compost and biogas by following composting procedures. This in-turn will help our farmers with their cultivation.Cover qPhoto credit: PixelStory.in
  • Also you can think of using some varieties of flowers for DIY potpourri which can be done on a large scale considering the quantity of flowers.potpourri-56a303805f9b58b7d0d01090Photo taken from online source

Let’s not wait, but be the first and make your wedding day something to remember for the years to come and for making an effort and difference to the planet we live in.

Rashmi & Karthik – A wonderful couple

Article by Ann Rose George Tharakan

A wedding fiesta it was and we as wedding planners really have to tell you how beautiful and wonderful are each couples that we come across.

We would like to give you a brief on Rashmi and Karthik’s wedding, a couple who blew our mind away. They were truly made for each other and complimented each other so well. It’s often difficult to find a couple being calm and easy to work with from the time of interaction till their Big day and here it is Rashmi and Karthik’s wedding is something that we have to tell you about. Rashmi approached us almost a year before her wedding and we really connected off so well with her and planned it as per what she dreamed it to be. We discussed on the various events that she had planned for her wedding. We started her wedding celebrations with the Sangeet which was held in Shangri-La an event where every single guest proactively got involved with each one proving anybody can dance. Post this they had their mehendi and varapuja ceremonies the next day in Tamarind Tree followed by the most awaited day for the couple. The wedding was also held in Tamarind Tree in a very traditional style with a decor and detailing planned just like how Rashmi wanted it to be. Rashmi even to date says that she miss talking to us which really made us realize that it’s a bond that we create forever and does not end with the wedding day.

A wonderful family who always had a smile anytime and we absolutely loved them all. We also take this moment to tell Rashmi and Karthik that we are so grateful that you gave us this opportunity to be a part of your wedding celebrations and for being so wonderful. We wish you and your family all happiness. A bride who definitely is one of our favorite the one whom we miss talking.

A real wedding inspiration.

The most awaited wedding season

Article by Ann Rose George Tharakan

Well, we realized it’s been a while that we updated on the latest weddings we have been busy with over the past couple of months. So to start off from where we stopped, it was like every other year, the month that is most in demand for weddings and of-course wedding planners. Yes, we are talking about the most significant month for Indian weddings, December. A month filled with love and romance is definitely a choice made by most couples to tie the knot and therefore making all the planners literally run on their toes.

We were packed with back to back weddings which were all unique in their own style and ways. The month started with a typical South Indian wedding which was a three-day event starting with the main wedding ceremony followed by a reception and a post-wedding celebration for close family and friends. Then moved into an engagement ceremony of a couple who wanted to keep it elegant and cosy which was arranged in their private farm house away from the busy city center, where the event was again another typical South Indian traditional event. The team brainstormed into executing some really interesting elements for decor that gave it a very traditional style yet modern giving the couple exactly what they pictured. Soon after this we moved into another South Indian Tambrahm wedding, which was again a three-day event that started with the family coming together to put up a show which surely said both the couple’s families got talent. An evening filled with fun and dance followed by the Mehndi and Varapuja ceremony on the next day. The third day was the most awaited day the wedding. This doesn’t end here our team then immediately jumped into the next wedding fiesta which was the last one for the year 2016. To say about this particular wedding, it indeed was a very intensively planned wedding. Being in touch with the couple for almost 8 months the team had been planning everything along with the couple starting from their Save the date, accommodation of their guests, logistics, guest management, planning their itineraries, event flow, various service providers till the moment they tied a knot. A wedding that blended two different cultures all together, one can say it was more like the North meets the South. Another wedding that had a Mehndi ceremony followed into the Sangeet which had the couples family and friends from different parts of the globe come together and proved that they could definitely fit in and do it the Indian way. The next day was the wedding which took off with a Baraat without which the groom would have for sure refused to get married (That’s the Punjabi gene), the event that never sticks to a time frame that one plans. Well, finally the groom makes it to the wedding mandap followed by a grand bridal entry with the bridesmaids holding a plate of petals with a lamp and the traditional nadaswaram team followed by grand entry of the bride with her family which then followed into the main ritual of tying the knot.

All the very best to all the lovely couples who gave us this opportunity to be a part of your big day.

It doesn’t end here, we will soon post our stories of the weddings and the crazy times we have had for the new year of 2017. Meanwhile, here is a load down on the weddings we spoke about.
